Ogilvy Wins - Shaw Loses

Geoff Ogilvy went wire-to-wire to win the season opener in Kapalua this past weekend. He actually was 6 clear of the field when the day started but gave back 5 to hold only a 1 stroke lead after nine but then he pulled it out & started playing again to finish at 24 under, 6 ahead of 2nd place Anthony Kim.

But the real action this weekend was at Chevy Chase CC where my club held its Ryder Cup format style tournament for the top 24 point earners from all '08 tourneys. Playing without my Tattoo Golf gear was a bit of a change for me & seemed to have a negative impact on my game! We played 3 9 hole matches with different partners on Saturday & I actually won all 3 matches so right there I contributed 3 points to my team. Putting was rock solid, the driving sucked, irons were inconsistent & chipping hit & miss. On Sunday we played individual 18 hole matches & my opponent & I were going head to head since we both have the same handicap.

I never got more than 1 up but thought that would be enough but I just couldn't hang & ended up losing the match & point. Fortunately our team ended up pulling out the victory 16 - 14 to win the Chevy Cup! Great fun. If you don't play in tournaments - you should, they're a blast & they're open to all skill levels with handicaps in place to even the playing field.

This Saturday is the Booze Shoot tourney which as the name implies will consist of much drinking & bottles of booze for all participants!

Happy New Year!!

Tattoo Golf had record sales last year despite the best efforts of the US economy to derail our plans! Makes you wonder what could have been had the financial markets not imploded? Anyway, I'm excited about the new year & looking forward to growing the TG brand & spreading our unique style of golf gear across the globe.

I'm also excited about the start of the PGA '09 season! I've played in Kapalua before on both the Bay & Plantation courses & it's one helleva tough round when the winds start whipping. Although on the final hole at the Plantation course I had my one & only 350+ yard drive & actually carded a par - one of the few that day. I guess I should mention that the hone slopes like 45 degrees so if you hit it straight, it will roll all day - but that's besides the point.

This weekend I'm playing in the year-ending tournament at my club that consists of the top 24 point earners from all 2008 tournaments. It's a Ryder Cup format with teams of 12 players competing in 2 man teams for 3 9 hole rounds on Saturday then individual matches of 18 holes on Sunday. We've got team uniforms so it will be the first time in years that I'll be teeing off in non-TG gear! Should be interesting.
